Shane Wright's Preferred Destination Revealed

The Seattle Kraken continue to work with Shane Wright's representatives to get the beleaguered young center to a new destination. He's been on the trade block since before the deadline in March. To be clear, Wright does not have any trade protection, so he really has no say in where he goes next.

However, we're learning that Wright himself appears to have a preferred destination. Ben Kuzma of The Vancouver Province tells us that the player wants to be dealt to the Vancouver Canucks.

"Postmedia has learned Vancouver is Wright’s preferred destination because of what the club could become in a few years. Those who know him are convinced he might be the most misunderstood player in the NHL," Kuzma wrote.

Wright, 22, was the 4th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. He is coming off a disheartening season in Seattle, with only 12 goals and 27 points in just 13:48 of average ice time. He is going into the final year of his entry-level contract, and will a restricted free agent next summer.

The upside is certainly there, and the Canucks, who are at the very beginnings of a full rebuild, do feel like the ideal team to take a chance on building with the young center.

Finding help down the middle is certainly a priority for Vancouver, who are currently saddled with the colossally disappointing Elias Pettersson and the oft-concussed Filip Chytil as two of their top three centers.

"The Canucks are attempting to solve their “riddles in the middle” puzzle, and a motivated player at the right trade price could be a key piece," Kuzma concluded.
