5 Teams Who Won't Be Trading For Jets' Connor Hellebuyck
The Connor Hellebuyck sweepstakes are alive and well, and several teams have reached out over the course of the last week, sending in trade offers, or reigniting trade talks from previous conversations. The Vezina trophy, and Gold Medal winning goaltender went public with his trade demands, confirming he wants out of Winnipeg.
While there's been a ton of focus on who is making trade offers, and which teams are getting closer to facilitating a deal, let's zone in on the teams who for sure won't even be making an offer. They include:
Toronto Maple Leafs
The Leafs have Anthony Stolarz and Sergei Bobrovsky locked in for a few years, and aren't in the market to upgrade in net. Even though Hellebuyck and Auston Matthews are very tight away from the rink, the Leafs are very comfortable with their goalie tandem, one that won a Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers recently, and they have one of the best goalie prospects in the league waiting in the wings.
New York Rangers
The Rangers need a lot of things, but they don't need another goaltender. Igor Shesterkin isn't going anywhere and is one of the only reasons the Rangers won as many games as they did last season. New York's made some big changes, they've gone younger, but they won't be making a move to land Hellebuyck.
Tampa Bay Lightning
The Lightning are in the same boat as the Rangers, where Andrei Vasilevskiy owns the starter's crease and that's not changing anytime soon. The Lightning could use an upgrade for a backup, but moving on from their Russian superstar isn't in the cards right now. Their attention is on trying to sign Patrik Laine for training camp.
Ottawa Senators
Hellebuyck owns a no-movement clause until next July, and the Senators won't make the cut as potential destinations. Word is Hellebuyck wants to play in the United States, and right at this moment, it feels like the New Jersey Devils are his preferred destination. Cross the Sens off, nobody wants to play in Ottawa.
Dallas Stars
While Hellebuyck would love to play in Dallas, the Stars aren't moving off of Jake Oettinger anytime soon. These two teams could complete a trade together, but it wouldn't include goaltenders, and would be more focused on the Jets trying to land a top-six forward. Hellebuyck to Dallas isn't happening anytime soon.
