Chicago Blackhawks re-sign Kevin Korchinski to two-year contract

The Chicago Blackhawks took care of some internal business weeks before training camps open, as they've inked defenceman Kevin Korchinski to a two-year contract extension.

The deal is worth $1.32 million average annual value, and now the 22-year-old defenceman, and the team have a bit of clarity these next two seasons. Korchinski is supposed to climb his way up their depth chart this season, and could be in line for a massive pay day once this contract runs out.

Korchinski split last season between the Blackhawks and the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs, including dressing in 13 NHL games, recording two assists, while playing just under 14 minutes per game. 

Korchinski was originally a No.7 overall pick of Chicago's at the 2022 NHL Draft, which was one of the draft picks they received from the Ottawa Senators for a trade that included Alex DeBrincat. The 6-foot-1 left-shot defenceman is a product of the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds, where he spent his entire junior career, which included winning a league championship in 2023, and playing in the Memorial Cup final.

Korchinski will be battling it out with Artyom Levshunov, Sam Rinzel, and Wyatt Kaiser for playing time next season, and since he's no longer exempt from waivers, is expected to make the team in 2026-27, and play a major role among their bottom pair.
