Dylan Larkin Trade 'Makes Too Much Sense' For One Canadian Team—Analyst

The Dylan Larkin drama continues to simmer in the background for the Detroit Red Wings. The trade request that he delivered to former hockey operations boss Steve Yzerman is still in effect, though Yzerman is out of the picture. Right now, just finding a new person to run the hockey ops department is their focus. 

Larkin, with his full no-trade clause, supposedly has only three teams that he would accept a trade to, in Minnesota, Florida, and Vegas. But if he'd open up his list a bit, TSN analyst Bryan Hayes of Overdrive has the ideal team for a Larkin trade, and in fact, says the Montreal Canadiens just 'makes too much sense.' 

I've said it all along, Larkin to Montreal is what makes sense. But Larkin's got to come around to it, and obviously he hasn't as of now. But the idea of having (Nick) Suzuki & Larkin as your one-two in Montreal with all the firepower they have on the wing and all of the prospects they have in the system, that just makes too much sense. And he's locked up like all the other core players there.

One of the other things that makes this interesting, noted Frank Corrado, is that Larkin and Cole Caufield, the Habs' star front-line winger, skate together in the summer, so he'd have some American buddies on the squad.  

As Hayes mentioned, Montreal certainly has some top prospects and young players that could interest Detroit if the two were to discuss a deal. And if Larkin is looking to be part of a winner, a team with a chance to really do something in the coming years, the Canadiens are certainly a spot for him to seriously consider. 

But first things first, as the Wings continue their process of finding a new GM, and then we see how things unfold for Larkin at the beginning of training camp in Michigan next month.
