Free-Agent Logan Stanley Linked To Sign With 1 Of 4 Teams

Towering defenceman Logan Stanley is one of the rare cases this summer where someone fumbled their bag.

Stanley had chances to sign contracts early on during free agency, and held out for better options, only to find himself unsigned on August 8th. Stanley is the best defenceman left on the free-agent market, the only problem is, now he'll have to settle for someone less money wise, and term wise on his next contract.

The big blueliner is coming off his best all around season, and despite a trade he never wanted from Winnipeg, the Buffalo Sabres gave up multiple assets for Stanley, only to healthy scratch him multiple times throughout their Stanley Cup Playoff run. The Sabres aren't interested in a reunion, and Stanley remains on the open market. The Jets signed Mario Ferraro and seemingly took themselves out of a potential reunion with Stanley this summer.

As far as his next contract goes, he likely could have landed a four-year deal around $4 million AAV, and that seems to be off the table at this point, just based on who has cap space left, and who has a need for another NHL caliber defenceman on a one-way contract.

With NHL training camps around the corner and with the offseason winding down, Stanley's now been linked to several teams, as he'll have to settle likely for a one, or two-year contract, at around $2-3.5 million AAV.

Destinations wise, Stanley has been recently linked to the Philadelphia Flyers, Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks, and Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins seem like a heavy favourite at this point, with the Ducks not far behind. Both teams need to add depth on the blueline, and adding Stanley's in-your-face style of play is something both teams could use more of. He's not afraid to mix it up in the dirty areas of the ice, and as you can see from this video, Stanley doesn't mind getting his hands dirty:
