NHLTR Mock Trade: Devils send 4-piece package to Wild for Quinn Hughes

The Quinn Hughes trade rumors continue as it doesn't sound like Minnesota Wild general manager Bill Guerin is making any progress with a contract extension.

Hughes has one year left on his contract a very reasonable $7.8 million average annual value, and the mobile all-star defenceman continues to be linked to joining his brothers on the New Jersey Devils. Several insiders feel if a contract extension isn't signed by the start of training camp, the Wild may have no choice but to move on.
Elliotte Friedman: Re Quinn Hughes/Wild: I thought it would've been done by now; I'm surprised; a person said to me, he was kinda laughing...look at social media, [the Hughes' have] been out all summer...probably can't get pinned down to talk about contracts - NHL Tonight (8/7)
With the Devils leading the charge, and despite Hughes not having any trade protection, onlooking teams aren't going to send a mega-package to Minny, just for Hughes to dip to the Devils next summer.

As far as a potential trade goes with New Jersey, the Wild will likely be asking for winger Dawson Mercer, defensive prospect Seamus Casey, a 2027 first-round pick, and second rounder either next year, or 2028.

This is going to be quite the game of cat and mouse as Hughes and the Wild continue to discuss what their future looks like, and if it's together. Hughes continues to be linked to wanting to continue his career alongside his brothers, and Guerin may be starting to realize that keeping Quinn happy in Minnesota is going to be impossible, if all he's considering moving forward is playing alongside both Jack and Luke.
