Report: Dylan Larkin Doubles Down On His Trade Request From Red Wings

While Steve Yzerman may no longer be the Detroit Red Wings general manager, that hasn't changed Dylan Larkin's desire to remain in Motown. According to multiple reports, Larkin still wants out, and hasn't taken back his trade demands from earlier this offseason.

There was a little bit of hope in Detroit that if they took Yzerman out of day-to-day control of operations, and moved him into an Advisor role, that Larkin would be able to see a new GM come in that he could trust, and get behind. But, that's not the case at all, and Larkin is holding firm on wanting a trade to either the Vegas Golden Knights, Minnesota Wild, Florida Panthers, or Dallas Stars

The Red Wings have notified onlooking teams that if they decide to trade Larkin, they want a first-line center in return, meanwhile some around the league would argue Larkin is a second liner on a contender. The 30-year-old Larkin is signed through the 2031 season at $8.7 million AAV, and last season in 74 games, posted 67 points. 

Detroit has close to $20 million in cap space, so they have all the flexibility in the world to take on heavier contracts, or a sweetener or two from interested teams. There was a ton of speculation a swap for Jason Robertson was coming with Dallas, but those talks broke off before Robertson signed a one-year deal to stick around big D. 

Minnesota wants Larkin and has the biggest need for him, but they have a complicated roster and Quinn Hughes' future to worry about. The Wild's offers haven't been strong enough get the Red Wings to bite. Vegas is pressed against the cap and don't have the assets either, so don't be surprised to see a Larkin trade go down before training camp, but also involving a third team.
