Report: Montreal Canadiens Mulling Over Multiple Trade Offers

The Montreal Canadiens continue to tinker with their roster ahead of training camp next month, and there's a very good chance we see a trade involving one of their rugged defenceman.

The Canadiens continue to take calls on restricted free-agent blueliner Arber Xhekaj. The 24-year-old is without a contract and brings a very dynamic skill set to the table, as he's willing and able to play a very physical game, and is one of the more intimidating presences in the NHL.

Xhekaj is coming off a year in which he dressed in 65 games, chipped in with 4 points, while playing just 11:25 of ice-time per game. 'Wifi' landed 178 hits, and blocked 43 shots. 

The Montreal Gazette’s Stu Cowan on Habs RFAs Arber Xhekaj & Zack Bolduc: The fact neither player has signed yet leads me to believe they could become part of sign-and-trade deals before Sept. 16.

As far as trade destinations go, the Philadelphia Flyers, Anaheim Ducks, and Calgary Flames appear to have the most interest. The Flyers love his style of play, and feel there's untapped potential in his game, meanwhile the Ducks, they need NHL proven defenceman and are in a tough situation cap wise. The Flames continue to rebuild and are looking to add more 22-25 year-olds on their roster.

We'll see where this goes, but all signs are pointing to Xhekaj being dealt in the coming weeks.
