Another Massive Winnipeg Jets Name Hits The Trade Board, Notable Team Linked

The Connor Hellebuyck situation drags on, as the three-time Vezina-winning goalie is currently suspended for not reporting to camp. He wants a trade, but the Jets, of course, want a huge return. If Hellebuyck does eventually get moved, it could have a domino effect on the Winnipeg roster.

Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos has unveiled his first trade board of the new season, and Mark Schiefele is the most shocking name to pop up.
With so much attention on Hellebuyck, very few are asking what this could mean for Mark Scheifele. If their MVP goalie is on the way out, the Jets are beginning to ask themselves if it’s better keeping the 33-year-old Scheifele, or looking for an impressive trade package that could reignite the Jets and take them in a different direction for the next decade.

Kypreos then goes on to link a very notable team with interest in the Jets' top-line center.

The Canadiens are among the teams asking about Scheifele after failing on Larkin. They have their eye on him as the perfect 1-2 punch to support top line centre Nick Suzuki.

It would, of course, be a hefty price that could include prospect Michael Hage, or 23-year-old NHLer Oliver Kapanen, among others (Kirby Dach is wrapped up in this too). And the thought of adding Sam Montembeault to work in tandem with Stuart Skinner is intriguing for Winnipeg, because they then wouldn’t need to get a goalie back in a Hellebuyck trade.

Lots to chew on there. The Jets want NHL-ready talent back as part of a return for Hellebuyck. Kapanen, the 22-goal-scoring rookie from last year, would fit that mold. Montembeault, arguably, could as well, if the Jets see him bouncing back from an awful season. The Hage thing, however, has the possibility of shutting the whole thing down.

In summary, Kypreos feels if Winnipeg gets off to a slow start to the season, "The Jets may be asking themselves if the Hellebuyck trade request is the best time to pivot the direction of the overall roster."

And that could lead to a Scheifele move next.
