Bruins Inadvertently Reveal Trade Offer For Canucks' Filip Hronek

It wasn't intended to come out this way, but the Boston Bruins have inadvertently let it slip that they had put together a trade package to make a pitch to the Vancouver Canucks for defenseman Filip Hronek this past offseason.

The revelation came during this week's airing of Behind the B, an all-access documentary series that gives fans an inside look at the inner workings of the Bruins. 

Apparently, the team was considering making an offer of their 2027 and 2028 first-round picks, plus defense prospect Liam Pettersson, in return for Hronek, the Canucks' top blueliner. The breakdown of the potential package can be seen clearly on the whiteboard in their war room, on the wall behind GM Don Sweeney during one of the scenes in the program.

It would seem that they never went through with the offer (or were turned down by the Canucks, or blocked by Hronek). 

Hronek is the Canucks' No. 1 defenseman, power play quarterback, and quite arguably the team's best player at this point. He recorded a career-high 41 assists and 49 points last season, along with 100 blocked shots and 133 hits. He logged over 25 minutes of average ice time. 

That hypothetical deal on the Bruins' whiteboard offered up a Boston prospect on the blueline in Liam Pettersson. He was a second-round pick by the Bruins in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, a mobile, two-way defenseman. 

Hronek is one of the few veterans on the bottomed-out and rebuilding Canucks that wants to stick around and honor his contract. He has six years to run on his eight-year deal with a very affordable $7.25 million cap hit. He has a full no-move clause, so any deal would have to be approved by the player.
