Buffalo Sabres Sign Noah Ostlund To Huge Long-Term Extension

The 22-year-old still has the coming season to complete his entry-level deal, so he's actually on board for another nine seasons in Buffalo, through to 2035. The contract buys out four UFA years, and has a modified no-trade clause of a seven-team no-trade list for the last four seasons of the deal.
Once the new collective bargaining agreement goes into effect on Wednesday at 12:01am ET, eight-year deals will be a thing of the past, with a seven-year contract the maximum that a team can re-sign their own player for. Six years will be the max on the open market.
Ostlund posted 11 goals and 27 points in 60 games in his rookie year last season, with an impressive plus/minus rating of +11. The former first-round pick (16th overall, 2022 NHL Draft) had a promising freshman campaign, with plenty of room to develop.
"He’s a coach’s dream, because those are the type of players you don’t really have to coach," Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said back in April. "He pretty well knows where he's going almost every time. Very few times in the (defensive) zone does he get out of position."
That's 10 Sabres now under contract for at least the next four seasons, through the 2029-30 campaign.
