Devils Invite 29-Year-Old Son Of NHL Legend To Training Camp

The New Jersey Devils are set on icing the best lineup they can in the league with new general manager Sunny Mehta. Or are they?

Stumbling onto the training camp lineup for the Devils, you can count the wave of the future set to take the NHL by storm. Lost in the mix, though, is one name that is quite puzzling: Jeremy Brodeur. 

Brodeur, son of Martin, a 29-year-old goaltender, will be taking part in the team's training camp with prospects almost a decade younger than himself.

No disrespect intended toward Jeremy Brodeur (turns 30 in October), but he turned pro and was a 'rookie' in 2017.

NHL personality Tony Androckitis poses an interesting question, as we see a trend infecting college football: mature, NFL-tier players have been making their way back to college rosters. 

Is this a sign that the trend won't stop in the NCAA?

Brodeur has a notable last name, obviously: the son of Devils legend Martin Brodeur. Is he getting a chance to work out in camp, or is he putting himself in the running for a position on the team?

The goaltending depth is good enough to make the Devils a bubble team at best with Jake Allen, Nico Daws, and David Rittich. 

It's difficult to see where Brodeur fits into the puzzle. 

He's been a career AHL/ECHL player who spent 41 games in the ECHL with the Adirondack Thunder, with a record of 23-12-5, 2.69 goals against average, and a .908 save percentage. 

At 29-years old is he ready to make the big jump, or is this purely symbolic? We can speculate, but the truth is elusive in this instance.
