Hurricanes Sign Mike Reilly To 1-Year Contract

The Stanley Cup champions have added some more depth on their blueline heading into next season.

The Carolina Hurricanes announced they've brought back defenceman Mike Reilly on a one-year deal worth $850,000 at the NHL level, and $450,000 at the AHL level. The contract is a two-way deal, and Reilly will be in tough to crack the NHL roster opening night.

Reilly, 33, appeared in 42 games last season for the 'Canes, recording one goal and eight assists. He also dressed in two Stanley Cup Playoff games, recording two assists. Throughout his 460 game NHL career, Reilly has played for the 'Canes, Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, Boston Bruins, Florida Panthers, and New York Islanders.

Reilly's a University of Minnesota product and in his AHL career has posted some solid numbers, tallying 80 points in 139 games. Reilly was originally drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets back in 2011, as a fourth-round pick, 98th overall.

The Hurricanes still have plenty of cap space heading into next season and there's lots of speculation about the future of Alexander Nikishin. Adding Reilly will help add some depth in case there's a trade to be made in the coming days.
