Ottawa Senators & Tampa Bay Lightning Complete Trade

The Ottawa Senators have added some goaltending depth, as the team announced on Friday, they've acquired goaltender Jonas Johansson from the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Senators are sending back future considerations in the deal. Johansson was recently put on waivers, as the Lightning pushed him out with their offseason trade for Dennis Hildeby from the Toronto Maple Leafs. 

Johansson has spent the past three seasons as the backup to Andrei Vasilevskiy. Last season, the Swedish netminder posted a 11-10-2 record, along with a 3.29 goals-against average and .884 save percentage. 

The Senators are excited to add the 31-year-old, who is on an expiring contract, and now replaces Leevi Merilainen as the Senators third goalie to Linus Ullmark, and Samuel Ersson. Merilainen was claimed early on Friday by the Vancouver Canucks, who have goalie issues of their own. 

Johansson is a pending UFA, who's set to earn just $25,000 in the minors, per PuckPedia. As for Ersson, he was acquired from the Maple Leafs during the summer, and is signed through next season at $2.2 million AAV.

This shouldn't be the last goalie trade before the start of the season on Tuesday, as there's talks Sam Montembeault in Montreal will be deal, along with Connor Hellebuyck, who wants out of Winnipeg, and is currently suspended by the Jets.
