Report: Ominous Update on Quinn Hughes' Future For Minnesota Wild Fans

The Quinn Hughes drama in Minnesota will be reaching a key (read: awkward) point next week when training camp opens. Although the elite blueliner still has one year remaining on his contract, he's been eligible for an extension for over two months, and still nothing has been signed. 

In fact, according to insider Chris Johnson, appearing on First Up this morning, Hughes isn't even sure yet that he wants to stay in Minny past this year.  

Quinn Hughes will meet with reporters tomorrow, for the first time all summer, but the latest report (Chris Johnston - TSN) paints the picture of a Hughes brother who is struggling internally to determine what he wants for the future.

"At least to this point, I don't think that has been committed to or something he's ready to do...  

"My understanding through the summer is that I think he was having trouble basically making up his mind about what he wants to do for his future. 

"Obviously there's a desire that we've known for years to one day play with his brothers. "

His brothers, of course, Jack and Luke, both play for the New Jersey Devils, and the rumors have been running rampant that they're trying to swing a trade with the Wild for Quinn Hughes. 

Of course, if he decides not to extend in Minnesota, all the Devils would have to do is wait out this season, and they could sign him in unrestricted free agency next summer without having to give a trade package haul if they were to do it now. 

And for the Wild, if they know that he's not going to commit, they'll need to trade him sooner rather than later, so that they're not stuck with losing Hughes for nothing, especially considering the massive package they gave up to get him from the Vancouver Canucks. 

Quinn Hughes' future 'undecided' as there is no extension in sight with Minnesota

There are rumors that the Wild are prepared to make him the highest-paid player in hockey, even surpassing the $20.4M AAV that Cale Makar got from the Colorado Avalanche on his extension signed just a couple of weeks ago.

But a further report today from David Pagnotta is that the Wild & Hughes perhaps haven't even exchanged numbers.

But training camp opens next week, and though he did enjoy his time in Minny this past season, Hughes will have to answer some serious questions from reporters in short order.
