5 Potential Trade Destinations For Nikita Kucherov

The Tampa Bay Lightning were handed some wild news on Friday afternoon, after Nikita Kucherov's agent informed the team he wasn't going to re-sign, and prefers to be traded. The Lightning have since released a statement and basically said there's zero chance we trade Kucherov, but if he doesn't want to play there, why let this distraction play out?

The 33-year-old Kucherov felt his contract extension offer was a low ball for an MVP, and now we dive into five potential trade destinations, from Kucherov's list of 10-teams he'd approve a deal too.

Carolina Hurricanes

Kucherov fits perfectly into what the Hurricanes need, the game-breaker that helps them repeat as Stanley Cup champions. The weather is great in Carolina, it's a very professional culture, and GM Eric Tulsky isn't afraid of a big swing. The Lightning wouldn't settle for anything less than at least one of the Hurricanes' young forwards in this deal. The 'Canes have $8 million in cap space, as they're a rare Stanley Cup contender with financial resources this season.

Los Angeles Kings

The Lightning are 8-3-1, so it's obvious winning isn't everything for Kucherov, money is. He could make a boatload with the Kings, who are desperate for more offense, and seeing the reigning MVP playing on a line with close friend Artemi Panarin would be a lot of fun to watch. The Kings have pieces to get the deal done, including Quinton Byfield and Brandt Clarke.

Chicago Blackhawks

This is exactly what GM Kyle Davidson has been waiting for. The Blackhawks have been trying for weeks to acquire a top-line winger, and now that Kucherov 'might' be available, it's time for Davidson to pounce. The Blackhawks have enough trade capital to make this work.

Washington Capitals

The Caps would have to give up Ryan Leonard in this trade, but Kucherov couldn't be more perfect for the Capitals, as they prepare for live without Alex Ovechkin. Imagine OV being teed-up one-timers from Kucherov for the rest of this season? The Caps are also tied to Dylan Larkin, as Dylan Strome could be in play, so we'll see how this all shakes out, but the Capitals are certainly a team to keep on the Kucherov radar.

San Jose Sharks

The Sharks need to pounce here and land Kucherov. Michael Misa would be included, perhaps Mason Marchment, and a few other pieces. GM Mike Grier has all the resources he needs to make this happen, and the weather of playing in sunny California is certainly going to be right up the ally of the Lightning legend. Kucherov to the Sharks would be amazing to watch.
