Connor Hellebuyck Off To Hot Start With Devils
Connor Hellebuyck is exactly what the doctor ordered in New Jersey, and now the Devils are an absolute wagon. The former Vezina trophy winner won his second straight start for New Jersey, taking down the Vegas Golden Knights 5-2 on Friday night.
“We’re developing great confidence around here in our ability,” New Jersey coach Sheldon Keefe said. “We had to refocus and get ready for here (after the Colorado loss). It was another really good team. The guys responded the way we wanted. … In terms of playing with a lead, it’s probably the best third period we’ve had in the season. We couldn’t ask for more in terms of the response.”
The Devils had everything they need but a stellar goaltender and now Hellebuyck has given them the confidence they needed, to what looks like, take them over the hump, and into contention. “He's a Hall of Fame goalie,” Devils defenseman Luke Hughes said. “He's unbelievable. It's been fun to play with him.”

Hellebuyck is 2-0-0 to start his Devils' tenure, with a 1.50 goals against average and .923 save percentage. The crazy part? The Devils are working the phones trying to acquire Dylan Larkin from the Detroit Red Wings, and are certainly where Quinn Hughes is going to sign in July, so while this season may be one to watch for the Devils, next season could be something special in New Jersey.
As for the Winnipeg Jets, they lost to the Florida Panthers on Friday, as Nico Daws was unable to secure his first win. The Jets have lost four straight and sit near the bottom of the standings in the Western Conference.
