Report: Canucks' Jake DeBrusk Open To Trade

Vancouver Canucks winger Jake DeBrusk remains open to a change of scenery, according to The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta, who reported that GM Ryan Johnson is willing to trade veterans including DeBrusk, Drew O’Connor, Filip Chytil, and Luke Schenn.

Pagnotta said Johnson is also trying to add younger, NHL-proven talent, and that DeBrusk has voiced discontent about being part of a rebuild in the past.

He Hasn’t Asked Out

DeBrusk said on September 9 that he has not asked for a trade, and told Sportsnet’s Iain MacIntyre that he signed in Vancouver for a reason.

Any trade would appear to be team-initiated, and nothing has been reported yet on talks with another club.

The Canucks ended a 10-game losing streak this week and are at the bottom of the standings, which has pushed the sell-off talk.

So far this year, DeBrusk has three goals and eight points across 12 games played.

The No-Movement Clause

DeBrusk is 30 and in the third season of a seven-year, $38.55 million contract with a $5.5 million cap hit that runs through 2030-31.

He has a full no-movement clause this season, which turns into a 15-team no-trade list on July 1, 2027, so any deal this season would be on his terms.

Chris Johnston noted on his trade board that this is the last season DeBrusk has full control over his destination, and that he might be motivated to work with Vancouver on a deal.

He scored 23 goals and 42 points last season. Over his tenure in Vancouver, DeBrusk has amassed 54 goals and 44 assists for 98 total points across 175 games played.
