The Vancouver Canucks and Los Angeles Kings are both eager to make changes to their rosters, and it could come down to doing some significant business together.

According to multiple reports, both teams are very active in discussions on the trade market, as the Canucks want to dive deeper into their rebuild, while the Kings are looking to re-tool on the fly. According to hockey insider David Pagnotta, there's some potential a swap of Elias Pettersson and Quinton Byfield presents itself.
David Pagnotta: Re Kings: I don't think anything's happening now on this front, but I really am curious, do they circle back again...do they go to Vancouver and say, we like Elias Pettersson, and we can discuss Quinton Byfield - DFO Insider (10/28)

Pettersson has turned back the clock and looks like his old self. He's engaged physically, his work ethic looks promising, and he's putting up some offense, posting 15 points in 14 games. Pettersson's been attached to trade rumors since the struggles started a couple of seasons ago, and now he could be open to finally moving on from Vancouver, and into a much quieter market with the Kings. The Swedish center is owed $11.6 million AAV through the 2032 season, and owns a full no-movement clause.

Byfield on the other hand, is still just 24 years old, and the struggle is real this season. The former first-round pick has posted just two points in nine games and looks to be someone the Kings are open to dangling on the trade market. Byfield is signed for $6.25 million AAV for two more seasons, and doesn't own any trade protection until the final season of his deal.

The Kings have just under $200,000 in cap space, so if this trade materializes, there will be a couple of throw ins from the Kings to make the money work.
