Latest Flyers Rumor Indicates Konecny Could Be On The Way Out
Speaking with sources Monday, there is a growing sense of frustration from within the Flyers organization with Konecny. According to one source, Konecny... isn’t overly impactful when he isn’t scoring or antagonizing the opposing team. The play often dies on his stick, making bad decisions with the puck that often lead to turnovers. As one source said, the one constant on the Flyers’ struggling power play the last number of seasons has been Konecny – a fairly-damning criticism.
Whoa. That's some serious stuff.
Konecny's time on ice is down this season, by almost 2 1/2 minutes from last season, and FOUR minutes from two years ago. He had three assists in the Flyers' first five winless games, and has been on IR for the past two losses.
Di Marco goes on to note that "approaching Konecny to waive his no-movement clause could be an option should the Flyers continue to struggle," as it's felt that his game just isn't suited to Rick Tocchet's system.
The 29-year-old is only in the second season of an eight-year, $8.75 million AAV contract. But for a player with seven 20-goal campaigns, including the last four straight, that's very good value these days. If the Flyers wanted to move him, they'd likely be able to figure something out.
Konecny has led the Flyers in points for each of the last five years, recording 68 last season in 77 games.
