Oilers focused on trade for young Eastern Conference center

The Edmonton Oilers are off to... an interesting start this season. It's already been a rollercoaster ride in just three games. Yet they stand at 2-0-1, so nobody is panicking just yet.

However, GM Stan Bowman is still looking at how to improve the roster, and he apparently has been strongly considering one young forward addition for some time now.

Insider Darren Dreger said on Edmonton Sports Talk that there's a particular young center the Flyers are targeting, though he tried his best not to put the kibosh on any deal by revealing the name.
I'm not gonna mention the player's name. A young forward, a young center potentially, with plenty of upside, plenty of room to grow, and plenty to prove at the NHL level. I know it's a conversation the Oilers have had for a number of weeks with a team in the Eastern Conference.

I don't want Oilers fans to get too over the top, too excited; we're talking about a guy who's still trying to prove his NHL value at this point...

I just know that Edmonton was considered to be a front-runner in trade conversation with this team about this Eastern Conference player.
Dreger still feels that the Oilers first intend to be sure that they don't already have what they're looking for in-house before pulling the trigger, but that they "have been kicking tires on this player and others for quite some time."

The Oil have been hit hard by the injury bug already this season, mostly up front, with Zach Hyman, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Matt Savoie, Jason Dickinson and Mattias Janmark all battling injuries. Dickinson is slated to return this week, but Bowman may be looking to further add to his forward group with the mysterious youngster that Dreger is referring to.
