Seattle Kraken Could Deal Notable Names For Big Splash On Trade Market

The Seattle Kraken are off to a better-than-expected start to the young NHL season, sitting at 7-4-1, in third place in the Pacific Division. But that doesn't mean that GM Jason Botterill isn't still on the hunt to make a significant addition to his team.

The Kraken have made several attempts to try to bring in a big time scorer over the past year or two, including Artemi Panarin and Jason Robertson, but were rebuffed by the players who didn't want to sign there.

According to insider Darren Dreger, speaking on Early Trading on TSN, Seattle is still out there trying to make a big splash.
Botterill has been on that hunt... for quite some time now.
I can remember checking in with the Seattle Kraken in early July and wondering what their path was looking like going into the off-season. At that point, I was told that, look, ‘We’d like to add a top-line scoring winger.’ Well, that’s a lot to ask. And that’s a pretty big piece to try and land. But that search continues. They’re not afraid of making a splash if the right player is made available.

Dreger adds that the Kraken are prepared to move one of their "big, good, young" centermen if that allows them to land what they're looking for. That would presumably include recent high draft pick prospects like Jake O'Brien, Oscar Fisker Molgaard and Julius Miettinen, as well as potentially Berkly Catton, who is already making his mark with the big club.

"Those are the pieces that Jason Botterill, I believe, I’m told by NHL sources, is willing to consider as part of that trade bait," said Dreger.

Then, of course, center Shane Wright's name has been on the trade block for about a year now, so let's throw his name into the mix as well.

"You look at the standings, and the Seattle Kraken are right in the middle of things. But those close to that organization say that their record is better than their performance. So, there’s a lot of things that are being worked on in terms of how the Seattle Kraken are playing these days."

The Kraken host the Toronto Maple Leafs Wednesday night.
