With Korpisalo Injured Rangers Recall Goaltender Dylan Garand
It was thought that Rangers' goaltender Dylan Garand wouldn't clear waivers, but he slipped through to the AHL's Hartford Wolfpack with no issue.
But with the latest news surrounding the New York Rangers camp, the team recalled the goalie after placing backup netminder Joonas Korpisalo on injured reserve today.
He was diagnosed with a lower-body injury, and it wasn't announced because the source to the AP spoke on condition of anonymity.
Korpisalo, who was signed as a free agent by the Rangers, stepped into the shoes that legendary goaltender Jonathan Quick left when he retired after the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
Coming off a down year as a Boston Bruin, he had a chance to show he was still capable of the performances we've seen in the past when he was a Columbus Blue Jacket (85 saves in five overtimes against the Tampa Bay Lightning).
Now it might be the perfect opportunity to show what the Rangers have developed in the AHL with Garand sharing the crease with Igor Shesterkin.

Garand played three games for the Rangers last season, with a record of 2-0-1, 91 saves, 1.62 GAA, and a .948 SV%.
He'll have a shot to prove that last season's small sample size wasn't a fluke and could give the Rangers some stability in the net. The prospect could get a look in the net on Friday against the Detroit Red Wings, because Thursday the team will face another Atlantic Division foe, the Tampa Bay Lightning.
In the meantime, the Rangers and GM Chris Drury will have to figure out whether or not they should expand the crease to carrying three goalies, or overwork Igor Shesterkin like they do every season.
