Blackhawks' Patrick Kane out with upper-body injury

The Chicago Blackhawks will be without one of their best forwards for a little bit, as Patrick Kane suffered an upper-body injury.

The slumping Blackhawks can't deal with a rash of injuries like many other teams, as they lack depth throughout their lineup, and being without Kane is going to be a major set back. Kane left Monday night's game against the Colorado Avalanche in the second period, in what turned out to be a 5-2 loss to the Avs.

Kane's going to be out for likely two weeks, as head coach Jeff Blashill confirmed right away after the game that Kane was going to miss some games. "It’s a loss, but again, this is the NHL, so you’re going to lose guys, and you’re going to find a way for other guys to step in,” Blashill said postgame.

Kane turns 38 in a couple of weeks, and while he's dealt with a fair share of injuries, in the past it's been mostly lower body. Kane's back in Chicago and playing pretty well this season, posting one goal and eight assists in 15 games.

The Blackhawks are already without top defenceman Bowen Byram, who suffered an upper-body injury weeks ago, and has been cleared by the team's Doctors, but at this point, Byram isn't comfortable returning to the ice.

Chicago is off to a 4-10-1 start, and seem destined once again to be ruining another year of Connor Bedard's prime. How long with Kyle Davidson keep his job if this team never improves?
