Report: 3 Sharks Players On The Table In 'Serious Offer' For Red Wings' Simon Edvinsson

The San Jose Sharks have been labeled as a top contender to land Simon Edvinsson if the Detroit Red Wings ultimately give in and trade their much-sought-after unsigned restricted free agent.

We're now getting word on three of the Sharks' young prospects that are on the table in the discussions as the two teams talk about what a trade package could look like.

After Elliotte Friedman reported that the Sharks had made a “serious offer”, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now did some digging and followed up with the following:
A source told San Jose Hockey Now: 'Filip Bystedt, Igor Chernyshov, and Keaton Verhoeff were all up for grabs, but I don’t know the combination.'

Whatever the makeup of that combo of players was, it wasn't good enough for the Red Wings, and it was turned down.

With Detroit knowing that they've lost their top center, Dylan Larkin—for now, to a suspension as he holds out, and eventually, through trade—they are looking for a young NHL-quality center in return. Only one of that group of impressive prospects is a man in the middle, and that's Bystedt.

The 22-year-old is a big-bodied center who can provide solid two-way depth down the middle. He was a first-round pick, 27th overall, by the Sharks in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. Daily Faceoff's Steven Ellis's prospect projection for Bystedt, however, is, for now, is more of a bottom-six piece. He just made his NHL debut a couple of days ago.

The Sharks have no other centers in the Top 10 of their prospect pipeline.

The top name of that prospect trio would be defenseman Verhoeff, who was the ninth overall pick in this year's draft. He's the Sharks' No. 2 prospect. Chernyshov was the team's No. 4 prospect going into this season. The winger has played 39 games in his young NHL career, and has 23 points.

Again, the Red Wings don't seem blown away by any of those as an anchor for an Edvinsson trade.

Would Michael Misa be available in a Sharks' offer for Edvinsson?

Now, if Michael Misa's name was thrown into the equation, it might at least get the talks ramped up. But even then, according to Darren Dreger, speaking this past week on Hockey Sense with Andy Strickland, even that might not do it on its own... For either side.

"Would San Jose do Michael Misa? ... I guess, the answer would be no. But I don't think Detroit does Edvinsson for Misa. I think Detroit would go, 'okay, yeah, we'll take Michael Misa, but we want something else.'"

So although the Sharks are a serious player in the Edvinsson sweepstakes, it doesn't sound like it's imminent.
