The Washington Capitals and New Jersey Devils pulled off a minor trade on Sunday, as the Devils shipped goaltender Remi Poirier to the Caps for a 2027 seventh-round pick.

Poirier was acquired off waivers by the Devils from the Dallas Stars in late September, but has not made any appearances in New Jersey. The 25-year-old goaltender was originally a 2020 sixth-round pick of the Stars, and last season, posted an impressive 27-19-6 record with the AHL's Texas Stars, along with a 2.61 goals against average, and .912 save percentage.

Poirier has appeared in 137 AHL games, and has yet to make his NHL appearance, despite some strong numbers. He owns a career 2.76 GAA and .908 save percentage in the minors, and was a product of the QMJHL's Gatineau Olympiques.

As for the Capitals, they currently have Logan Thompson and Charlie Lindgren under contract for the foreseeable future, and this is certainly a move to add some depth to their organization's crease, specifically, outside of the NHL.
