Report: Sharks Make Coaching Decision Amid Trade Push

San Jose Sharks general manager Mike Grier is not contemplating a coaching change at this stage, according to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, even as the club looks for a bigger move on the roster.

LeBrun reported the news on Thursday’s Insider Trading after weeks of speculation about head coach Ryan Warsofsky.

Warsofsky Safe For Now

The Sharks opened the season 6-4-1 before losing six of their last seven, including a 7-2 defeat at the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday that led to a players-only meeting.

They've now lost four straight.

San Jose sits near the bottom of the league in goals for, which has fueled questions about the bench.

Warsofsky signed a multi-year contract extension on Sept. 17, which LeBrun pointed to as part of why Grier is not looking at a change.

Edvinsson Remains The Target

Johnston said the Sharks are “big-game hunting” and have been very much in on Detroit Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson.

The conversations with Detroit appear to have cooled, and no close deal has been reported, however.

Johnston added that some teams around the league believe Edvinsson makes the most sense as a Shark.

Edvinsson is still unsigned, and Johnston expects it to take until the Dec. 1 signing deadline before there is movement on his situation.
