NHL Trade Rumors 2011 2012 Los Angeles Kings' forward, Ryan Smyth wants to be traded back to the team that drafted him in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, the Edmonton Oilers. According to TSN's, Bob McKenzie, Smyth who is age 35 has the desire to finish his career as an Oiler. A NHL player wants to leave the sunny beaches of California for the cold winters of Edmonton? This is big news.

Ryan Smyth never wanted to leave the proud Oilers, and this is not the first time a player has regrets about leaving Edmonton. There is another player by the name of Wayne Gretzky who was very upset about leaving the Oilers. Smyth's family also prefers living in Edmonton over Los Angeles. The Kings are exploring possible trades to free up salary space because they are near the cap. The Oilers are below the cap floor and they need to add salary, so Smyth's cap hit of $6.25 million for one more year does not harm the Oilers. In return for the salary dump, they would be getting a left winger who can put up 20 goals and add alot of leadership to a young Oilers squad.

The only roadblock is the fact that the Los Angeles Kings want an asset back in return. Something like Gilbert Brule for Ryan Smyth is a good starting point.
