With the Detroit Red Wings' first round exit to the Nashville Predators, GM Ken Holland is deciding how to retool his team. The Red Wings have an old core of  players. The oldest player, Nicklas Lidstrom, has an uncertain future because he struggled to produce last season and is 41 years old. Lidstrom retiring leaves a huge hole on the Wings blue line.

The Detroit Red Wings have plenty of cap space and are waiting until 2012 NHL Free Agency to bid competively for top UFA Defenseman Ryan Suter to replace Nicklas Lidstrom.
