P.K. Subban Trade Rumors

Trade rumors surround the Montreal Canadiens and defenseman P.K. Subban for the 2012-2013 NHL offseason. Subban struggled his first few seasons and his undisciplined play has drawn much criticism from observers around the league. Former coach Jacques Martin says, "The young blue liner does not have a good understanding of the game."

The 23 year old restricted free agent is coming off a contract with a cap hit of $875,000 per year. Subban is looking for a big raise with a contract in the $4 million dollar range per year. The Habs new GM Marc Bergevin has difficult decisions to make as he tries to improve his roster.

Trading Subban for an established player may be in the Canadiens' best interests. On the other hand, if P.K. Subban has great success elsewhere, it conjures up memories of the Habs' regretful John LeClair trade in the mid-1990s.
