INJURY: Justin Schultz out for four months with a broken leg


Pittsburgh defenseman Justin Schultz will be out for four months with a broken leg. Schultz had surgery on Sunday to repair a fracture in his lower left leg. 
Schultz left Pittsburgh's game against Montreal on Sunday with 12:18 remaining in the first period after taking a hit from Tomas Plekanec. Pittsburgh ended up losing the game 4-3 in a shootout to the Canadiens.

The 28-year-old defenseman has four assists in four games, while averaging more than 17:00 of ice time in each of his first three games. Schultz finished the season last year with 27 points (four goals, 23 assists) in 63 games.

Pittsburgh's top defensive pair of Kris Letang and Brian Dumoulin stayed the same for the teams Monday practice, while the other five defenseman rotated. 

Jack Johnson and Olli Maatta played alongside each other in the Penguin's season opener against the Capitals, a pairing the could be reformed in the absence of Schultz, leaving Rookie Juuso Riikola paired with Jamie Oleksiak.

Pittsburgh also recalled Derek Grant from the AHL, a move that saw goaltender Tristan Jarry heading down the the minors.
