BREAKING: Matt Duchene Traded to Columbus Blue Jackets

We have a blockbuster trade to announce, as the Senators have dealt Matt Duchene to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Ottawa Senators have traded Matt Duchene and Juius Bergman to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Jonathan Davidsson, Vitaly Abramov, a 1st round pick in 2019, and a conditional 1st round pick in 2020.

The condition on the 2020 1st round pick whether or not the Blue Jackets can re-sign Duchene.
The 2019 pick is currently top-3 protected.

The 28-year old centre has played 50 games with the Senators this season, scoring 27 goals and 58 points in that time.

Julius Bergman is a 23 year old defence-man who was playing with the Belleville Senators of the AHL. He was originally acquired from the Sharks in the Mike Hoffman trade, and has scred 6 points in 33 games with Belleville.

Heading back the other way, Vitaly Abramov is a former 3rd round draft pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Don't let his draft selection fool you, Abramov is incredibly talented. His main issue comes in the form of being 5 feet 9 inches tall, but his skill level is excellent. Similar situation as Alex Debrincat in the 2016 draft.

Jonathan Davidsson is a bit more of an interesting player. He could make a real impact in the NHL with his offensive skills, but his size and defensive capabilities leave much to be desired. He'll be a project for the Senators, but it could really pay off for them in the long run.

More to come...
