3 possible destinations for Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist

As the news broke yesterday out of Sweden that 'The King' realizes he may not retire a Ranger, we examine some possible destinations for the Swedish netminder.
The Big Apple has been home to Lundqvist for the past 14 seasons, where's he enjoyed a solid career, but having a ticket of $8.5 million with 2 years left on his deal could make him hard to move.

The Rangers may be forced to retain salary in any trade, and may even have to buy-out Lundqvist to completely move on from his services. In that case, this will be something both parties agree upon as the level of respect is very high between the Rangers and the King. If the King does move on, expect the following teams to come calling:
  1. Columbus Blue Jackets - with 'Bob' a pending UFA and sufficient cap space, CBJ could make a play for Lundqvist. They were on in Lundqvist at the trade deadline, but that's not really saying anything as CBJ was in on EVERYONE at the deadline. This would be a good team for Lundqvist to get the majority of the workload next season.
  2. Calgary Flames - after their first round exit, some changes are coming in Calgary, how drastic, only time will tell. Mike Smith is a free agent and David Rittich doesn't have a ton of experience, so adding a veteran like Lundqvist to a solid group up front, makes a ton of sense. The Flames are strapped for cash, so if the King is bought out, expect the Flames to come calling.
  3. Florida Panthers - word is Joel Quenneville is big Lundqvist fan, and with the health concerns with Roberto Luongo, adding Lundqvist could be a big boost for the 'cats. They will be in on Bobrovsky out of Columbus, so if they lose out on 'Bob', expect the Panthers to make a play for Lundqvist.
Honorary mentions go to the Edmonton Oilers and the New York Islanders as both teams are expected to make some changes this offseason and could be looking to add a veteran piece to their crease. Imagine Lundqvist in an Islander uniform? Stranger things have happened.
