Rumor: Trade talks continue between the Sabres and Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers start a new season with many of the same questions that have haunted them for years. Who plays with Connor McDavid? Where does the secondary scoring come from? And, who's going to play major minutes on their back-end? The Buffalo Sabres may have one of those answers.

As for the Oilers, they started the Holland/Tippett era off with a big win against the Vancouver Canucks, however, it came at a huge cost, as defenceman, Adam Larsson blocked a shot early in the game and ended up playing the contest on a broken foot. Larsson is expected to miss roughly 2 months.

Insert the Buffalo Sabres. A team with a plethora of right-handed defenseman. According to sources connected to the Sabres, the team has reached out to the Oilers to gauge their interest in Rasmus Ristolainen. It's no secret the Sabres have held discussions with multiple teams about Ristolainen, and appears the Oilers are their latest target. Would the Oilers have enough to facilitate a trade?

Without a doubt Jesse Puljujarvi's name would be included in any upcoming Oilers trade, however, with Ristolainen's $5.4 million dollar cap hit, Oilers GM, Ken Holland would need to get creative to make the money work. A bad contract would have to be parlayed with another top prospect and Holland may be tentative to make any snap decisions early on in the season.

Buffalo continues to shop Rasmus Ristolainen, do you see the Oilers as a good fit? Have to think, Connor McDavid would sure welcome the help.
