The Washington Capitals Continue Hilarious Superstition

NHL players are absolute freaks when it comes to routines and superstition. Sidney Crosby still uses the same jockstrap from minor hockey and always handles the puck on the McDonald's logo on the ice. This new superstition in the Washington Capitals locker room is none like we have ever seen before.

The Capitals have many superstitions; cup checks, handshakes, butt slashes, and biting. The Caps have now continued an old superstition that involves hand holding. Jakub Vrana and Madison Bowey would hold hands while going out for warmup. Vrana hasn't had a hand to hold since the departure of Bowey from the organization. Nicklas Backstrom has now offered a hand for Vrana to hold.

Bowey and Vrana explained the tradition in the past. It's unclear how this topic came up in the dressing room or how Backstrom was convinced to continue the tradition.

“One game we were just trying to get each other going a little bit and I lent my hand out and he gave me a little high five,” Bowey said. “Now it just kind of carried on a little bit longer."

“He wanted to give me high five so from beginning we just do the high five,” Vrana said, “And then lately I was like holding his hand and he didn’t let it go and we just skate in the ice together."

“He’s always going in front of me and I go behind him and we kind of like hold the hands and just try to shake and skate on the ice together,” Vrana said. “It’s like our game ritual or something.”
