Flames GM Admits Team Has Underperformed, Changes Coming

The Calgary Flames have struggled this season and general manager Brad Treliving knows his team just isn't good enough right now to compete with the contenders. The Flames currently sit on the outside looking in at the playoff picture and even after a coaching change haven't been able to find their stride.

Treliving met with the media recently and had this to say about where the Flames are and where he sees them going:

You can come up with a whole lot of words: disappointment, frustration, a lot of things. We're in a results-oriented business, so the results we have are certainly not acceptable and not what we wanted to have happen. But I think there (have) been some changes that have come into our game, specifically on the defensive side. But the good things that have happened aren't what we want to talk about.

Certainly we have to improve our team. Right now, this is the group of players we have. We've got to find a way to maximize performance out of them, and like every other team, you're going to look at how you can improve yourself and what changes you can make leading up not only to the (trade) deadline but beyond that.

The Flames GM has gone through goalies and coaches at will since taking over in 2014 and now seems to be set on both fronts. While there likely won't be any blockbuster moves before Monday's trade deadline from Calgary, you can expect a minor deal or two.

Once the season is over the team will make a full assessment of its roster and there's potential some major changes are coming to the Flames.
