2 Teams Who Should Sign Ryan Getzlaf If Anaheim Lets Him Go

Envisioning Ryan Getzlaf on a new team is certainly a strange prospect. Yet, with free agency looming, the veteran forward has yet to agree on an extension with the Ducks. The Ducks are in the middle of their rebuild and Getzlaf did see his role with the team decrease this year. If the team is looking to get younger, this may mean the end of Getzlaf on the Ducks. They also are not afraid to let legends go, as evidenced by Corey Perry just two years ago.

Getzlaf may not be the first-line center he once was, but he could be a marvelous option on the third-line. He still contributes enough offensively to play in that spot, while also playing very physically. Teams looking to win the Stanley Cup could also use a player like him because of his experience and leadership.

Seeing him on these two teams could be intriguing.

Washington Capitals: The Washington Capitals need to turn things around. After winning the Stanley Cup in 2018, they have been bounced out of the first round every postseason since. Getzlaf could be an interesting player to sign, as he could fit nicely in their bottom-six. Even though he is not the flashiest of signings at this juncture, he still would be a great addition in terms of depth. Perhaps he could even see his statistics jump up a bit playing with their stacked forward group.

Vegas Golden Knights: There is no secret that the Vegas Golden Knights need to improve at the center position. Adding Getzlaf could certainly help with this, as he can slot anywhere in their lineup and be quite effective. Ideally though, Getzlaf could be a marvelous third-line center with this roster. They also on the verge of losing fourth-line center Tomas Nosek to free agency, so he could even be his replacement in the lineup. It also would keep him on the west coast, which could be appealing to him.
