2 Potential Landing Spots For Veteran Goalie Jaroslav Halak

Jaroslav Halak is likely going to be wearing a new jersey next season. Although he had an okay season, the emergence of Jeremy Swayman may lead to the end of his Boston tenure. He lost the backup job to Swayman during the season and wouldn't touch the ice again.

Yet, Halak can be at least be a backup goalie on a new team. He had a .919 save percentage in 2019-2020, so it is possible that he could get back to similar numbers. It was just a very hard year for him, as he would miss a long period of time after getting COVID-19 and never had a chance to find his rhythm again.

Halak could a great addition for these two teams.

San Jose Sharks: The San Jose Sharks need at least one new goalie if they want to avoid rebuilding. Halak would be an instant upgrade over what they have now. This could be a prime destination for him if he wishes to be a number one goalie, too. However, the Sharks are not as reliable defensively as the Bruins, so he will be put to work a lot if he joins them. If the Sharks sign another goalie with him, they would have a nice tandem to work with. That would require buying out Martin Jones, though.

Carolina Hurricanes: The Carolina Hurricanes may lose both James Reimer and Petr Mrazek to free agency this summer. Thankfully, they have Alex Nedeljkovic, but as a young goalie, he will need some support. Halak seems like a wonderful option, as he can help mentor the youngster. Halak also has an abundance of playoff experience, so he can step in if needed during the postseason. He also should not command too much money, so signing him would leave the Hurricanes with even more cap space to upgrade elsewhere.
