Colorado Avalanche Sign Veteran Forward

The Colorado Avalanche have signed Darren Helm to a one-year, $1 million contract.

Helm has spent the entirety of his 14-year NHL career with the Detroit Red Wings, but he will now be wearing an Avalanche sweater. In 744 career games with Detroit, he had 112 goals and 251 points. He primarily has been utilized as a bottom-six forward and penalty killer.

At this stage of his career, the 34-year-old veteran still does quite well as a fourth-liner. In 47 games this season, he had three goals and recorded eight points. He is not coming to Colorado to provide high amounts of offense, but rather effective defensive play and overall experience.

There is nothing too risky about this contract at the end of the day. We will see how Helm adjusts to his brand new team.
