Trade Rumor: New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators Discussing Deal

The New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators are reportedly discussing a deal that sees Ryan Strome being involved and heading to the Senators. Andy Strickland was the first to report the trade chatter.

Strome is set to make $4.5 million next season and is coming off a year where he recorded 49 points in 56 games. His name being 'out there' is certainly a touch of a surprise considering how well he played last season and the Rangers current depth at center.

The Senators would love to add Strome as after Josh Norris they don't have a ton of depth down the middle. The team is potentially going to lose Chris Tierney to the Seattle Kraken draft and could use Strome to plug the hole afterwards. The Rangers pivot is in the last year of his contract and set to be an unrestricted free agent after next season.

At this point it's not known what would be heading to the Big Apple, however one player to watch is Connor Brown. The Senators versatile winger has come into his own in Ottawa and the Rangers could use him within their top six. Last season Brown scored 21 times in 56 games and could potentially reach 30-35 goals in a 82 game season. He's defensively responsible and has the type of work ethic new head coach Gerard Gallant is looking for. Expect the chatter around this deal to pick up once the Kraken select their roster.
