2 Possible Landing Spots For Veteran Patrick Marleau

This season Patrick Marleau became the NHL's all-time leader in games, passing Gordie Howe's feat. Marleau has now played in 1,779 NHL games. In them, he has 566 goals, 631 assists and 1,197 points. At this stage of his career, the 41-year-old has understandably taken a noticeable step back offensively. In 56 games with the Sharks this season, he only had four goals and nine points. However, the 23-year veteran has yet to call it a career. Could he come back for one last go-around? If so, here are two possible destinations for him.

San Jose Sharks: Marleau has played 21 seasons with the San Jose Sharks over three different stints, so yes, this is where he would most likely end up if he commits to one last season. When looking at his offensive contributions last season, there is a good chance that he would play fourth-line minutes or be a depth forward. Although he would not win a Stanley Cup next season with them, it could be nice for him to play one last season for the team he spent the vast majority of his long career with. It would be a nice farewell season for the legend.

Colorado Avalanche: If Marleau wants to win his first Stanley Cup in his final season in Ray Bourque-like style, the Colorado Avalanche could be the perfect place. They have some cap space left and he could be a depth forward for them. Although he would not play every night, he could be an excellent mentor to have around because of his vast experience in the league. This is less probable than Marleau returning to the Sharks, but you never know. He did leave San Jose to try to win with the Maple Leafs and accepted a trade to the Penguins previously.
