Chicago Blackhawks: Best Addition And Worst Subtraction Of The Summer

Now that the off-season seems to be slowing down, we have a pretty good idea of every team's roster heading into this upcoming year. In this segment, we will be going over the best addition and worst subtraction for each of them. Something important to note is that players who were re-signed or given extensions will not be eligible for the "best addition" section. The same applies for draft picks from this year's NHL Entry Draft.

In this piece, we will be focusing on the Chicago Blackhawks. In terms of their transactions this summer, it is fair to state they look a lot better on paper. They've made plenty of notable additions and are hoping to find themselves back into the postseason.

Best Addition: Marc-Andre Fleury G

Between Marc-Andre Fleury and Seth Jones, you could really go with either. However, I'm going to give Fleury the small edge because the Blackhawks gave up nothing to get him. For Jones, they lost Adam Boqvist, two first-round picks and a second as well. Still, it's an understandable price to pay for a player they see as a top-pairing defenseman moving forward. However, Fleury just had a Vezina Trophy winning season as well. In 36 games, he had a 26-10-0 record, 1.98 GAA and .928 SV%. Although he is 36 years old, he is still an elite goaltender and could be the player who carries Chicago back to the playoffs.

Worst Subtraction: Pius Suter C

The one questionable move made by the Blackhawks was not tendering a qualifying offer to PiusSuter. Although Jonathan Toews is expected to come back this upcoming season, it is strange that they would let the promising young forward leave for nothing. Obviously cap space was a big reason for it, but perhaps they could have landed a draft pick for him via trade? In 55 games this season, he scored 14 goals and recorded 27 points. Keep in mind, this was just his first season in the league, so he could get even better from here with the Detroit Red Wings.
