Dallas Stars: 2 Breakout Candidates For Next Season

With each season that passes, it seems as though every team has players who improve significantly. They often turn out to be prospects naturally, but players who have some experience in the league also can. In this segment, we will be looking at two potential breakout candidates from each team. We will also be setting a max age limit of 26 years old, so older players are not eligible for discussion.

The Dallas Stars will be the team of discussion in this one. The Stars are certainly worth paying close attention to this season, as they brought in many new faces in hopes of making it back into the playoffs. Their chances seem quite likely, especially if their key players stay healthy. These two players had very good rookie seasons, but have the potential to be even better moving forward.

Jake Oettinger G: Jake Oettinger had a very solid start to his NHL career this past season. In 29 games, he sported an 11-8-7 record and had a .911 SV%. As he continues to become more used to NHL action, he should continue to show signs of improvement. Keep in mind, he is still just 22 years old and already looks quite confident in goal. He is a player to keep a close on eye during his sophomore season in the league.

Jason Robertson LW: Jason Robertson was absolutely fantastic in his first full NHL season. In 51 games, he scored 17 goals and recorded 45 points. However, he is only 22 years old, so we may not have seen the best of him yet. Robertson may have the ability to turn into a point-per-game player and could reach that feat this season. For a team who has been criticized for their lack of scoring depth, Robertson seems to be a huge answer for it.
