Ottawa Senators Make Interesting Roster Move

Ottawa Senators head coach D.J. Smith has told reporters that the team's dressed goaltenders for Saturday's contest against the Anaheim Ducks will be Anton Forsberg and Filip Gustavsson. With this, Matt Murray is set to be a healthy scratch.

After Wednesday night's 6-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks, Smith discussed how Ottawa needs a goaltender to start stealing them games. Murray started that contest and allowed four goals on just 27 shots. Therefore, one could argue that Smith's decision was something easy to predict.

Since joining the Senators, Murray has struggled immensely. He currently sports a 0-5-0 record and .890 SV% this season. As for last year, he went 10-13-1 and had an .893 SV%. This is very concerning when remembering that he has three years left at a $6.25 million cap hit.

When the Senators acquired Murray from the Penguins, they certainly didn't expect a battle for the starting goaltender job to occur. Hopefully Smith's message will help make Murray regroup.
