Rumor: Eric Staal To Be Signed This Month

According to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic, Eric Staal's agent, Rick Curran, has been talking to three or four teams about the idea of them signing the 37-year-old center. Following this, he stated that those teams could decide later this November to sign him to a cheap contract.

Although we just saw veteran Braydon Coburn retire after not getting signed during the offseason, Staal doesn't want to go down that avenue just yet. In fact, it's also been noted by LeBrun that Staal has been training in Minnesota.

Speaking of Minnesota, the Wild are still Staal's preferred destination. However, they have not shown mutual interest in the veteran center. Furthermore, we previously reported that he wants to play in the United States over Canada to be close to his family. That essentially kills any chances of a reunion with the Montreal Canadiens.

In 53 games last season with the Buffalo Sabres and Canadiens, Staal had five goals and 13 points. However, he did have a 47-point campaign with the Wild the season before, so perhaps he could once again be a solid scoring threat if signed. We will have to wait and see if this does in fact occur.
