Senators Sign Defenseman To Extension

The Ottawa Senators have signed defenseman Nick Holden to a one-year, $1.3 million contract extension.

Holden was viewed as one of Ottawa's primary rental candidates, but with this extension, that now has officially changed. The 34-year-old will now be back with the Senators for next season.

During the offseason, Holden was traded to the Senators from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for Evgeny Dadonov. In the deal, the Senators also landed a 2022 third-round pick, too. In 30 games this season, Holden has a goal, three assists, and a minus-4 rating. With that, the 6-foot-4 defenseman has been very active physically - as evidenced by his 54 hits.

Although Holden is not a star, he is a very serviceable bottom-pair defenseman. For what he provides, the $1.3 million cap hit is not too outrageous. With that, he also has a lot of overall experience, so he should continue to be a good mentor in the locker room.

In 543 career games between the Columbus Blue Jackets, Colorado Avalanche, New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, Golden Knights, and Senators, Holden has 46 goals, 101 assists, and 147 points.
