Surprising Leader In Odds For Red Wings Next Head Coach

The next head coach of the Detroit Red Wings could be a very bold choice, if Vegas oddsmakers are correct. This will be Steve Yzerman's first head coaching hire since taking over as the Wings general manager three years ago.

According to BetOnline, the betting favorite to be Yzerman's choice is his former teammate, and three-time Stanley Cup champion in Detroit, Sergei Fedorov.

Fedorov is a 7-2 favorite on BetOnline, while SportsBetting.ag also has him favored, at +350. He was a teammate of Yzerman's for 13 years, before leaving as a free agent in 2003. He coached in Russia during the past season.

Trailing Fedorov is former Golden Knights coach Peter DeBoer at 4-1 odds, or +400, while ex-Boston Bruins bench boss Bruce Cassidy is at 9-2, or +450, while the much-sought-after Barry Trotz is at 6-1, or +600.

All eyes on Yzerman now.
