Blackhawks & Senators Complete Blockbuster

The Ottawa Senators have acquired Alex DeBrincat from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for the seventh overall pick and 39th overall pick of this year's draft. With that, Chicago has also landed Ottawa's 2024 third-round pick.

Man, what a trade! The Senators are showing the league that they are no longer rebuilding with a move like this one. Ottawa is trying to become competitive again, and landing a star like DeBrincat is a great way to start with that.

DeBrincat will provide the Senators with a top-of-the-line sniper. In 82 games this season, the 24-year-old scored 41 goals and recorded 78 points. It was another excellent year from the Michigan native. Now, he will be aiming to keep this kind of play up in Ottawa.

Overall, this return for the Blackhawks seems rather weak. There's no question that the seventh overall pick is a good starting point in this deal. Yet, the fact that they didn't acquire a second first-round pick or NHL-caliber player is pretty lackluster. Who knows, though? Maybe they will hit home runs with each of these picks and end up the winners of the deal. Yet, for now, Ottawa clearly is on top.
