New Jersey Devils Sign Veteran Defenseman to PTO

The New Jersey Devils have signed Thomas Hickey to a professional tryout contract.

Hickey appeared in only six NHL games these past two seasons with the New York Islanders. His placement on their depth chart fell to the point where he spent most of his time in the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the AHL. However, when it came to AHL play this year, he split time between the Sound Tigers and Ontario Reign, where he had six goals and 18 points in 44 games.

Hickey will now be aiming to earn himself a contract with the Devils, but when looking at their defensive group, he likely would only make their roster as a depth defenseman or play in the AHL. Either way, the 33-year-old could be a decent addition if he earns himself a contract due to his plethora of experience.

In 456 career NHL games, all with the Islanders, Hickey has 22 goals, 95 assists, and 117 points.
