NHL Rumors: Oilers & Blackhawks Linked to Trade

According to multiple reports, the Edmonton Oilers could have Chicago Blackhawks forward Sam Lafferty on their trade radar. Hockey insiders Elliotte Friedman and Frank Seravalli have both recently linked Lafferty's name to the Oilers.

The Blackhawks forward is versatile, and able to play any positions up front. He's signed through next season at $1.7 million annually and so far this season, has seven points in 19 games. Lafferty is known for his ability to play on both sides of the puck and could provide some depth to the Oilers bottom six.

The Blackhawks are open for business and will soon approach Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane about potential trades. They also have a number of other players expected to be shipped out this season, including Lafferty, as management is committed to a complete five-year rebuild.

The acquisition cost for the Oilers to land Lafferty won't be substantial, so it could be a nice upgrade for their lineup as they push for a Stanley Cup this season.
